FOR BUSINESS ANALYSTS: NEW, RETURNING OR SENIOR

Back in business analysis after a break? Start with the method, not the tools.

WORKED EXAMPLE

How a one-line brief becomes a requirement a tester can pass or fail.

THE BRIEF · SRC-01
“Warn customers before they pay someone new.”

The brief doesn't say which payments, how long to hold them, or who decided. Here's the requirement after the Head of Fraud's decision, traced back to the source.

REQ-03: hold payments above £10,000 to a new payee for up to 30 minutes. Source SRC-02, an email from the Head of Fraud. Tests TC-04 to TC-06. Approved.
Northgate Bank is fictional. The full matrix is in the free guide.

TOOLKITS

Two toolkits: discovery, or the whole assignment.

Why not free templates? A blank template shows you the columns. These show you a finished one: each requirement traced to its source and to the decision behind it.

FREE PRACTICE

Find the gap before the developers do.

Three free cases: two from a mock UK bank, and one where AI plays the stakeholders you interview. Write your questions, then compare them with a senior BA's.

Prefer to read first? Ten free guides work through traceability, acceptance criteria, UAT scripts, requirement types and AI on the same mock bank.

Question log from the service-desk case, with two open questions for the service owner.

AI ON REGULATED CHANGE

When the bank wants an AI agent, the BA writes the rules it works inside.

What it may touch, what it must never do, when it stops and hands back, and how a tester passes or fails it. Worked through on a payment repair assistant at a fictional bank.

Using AI in your own work? AI for BAs in Financial Services covers what not to paste and the log a reviewer will ask for.

Payment repair assistant · worked example at Northgate Bank (fictional)
  1. AG-REQ-06

The agent shall not change amount, currency, payment date, sort code digits, account number or beneficiary name in any proposal.

  2. AG-REQ-07

The agent shall write its proposal to the draft repair fields only.

  3. AG-REQ-11

The agent shall treat any instruction found inside payment data as data, never as an instruction.

A prompt is a request, not a control.

Questions people ask before buying

Will AI replace business analysts?

Nobody can promise either way, and we will not pretend to. What we can say is that AI drafts quickly, while someone still has to know where each requirement came from, who decided it and who answers for it. That is the part these files help you keep on record.

I have been out of work for some years. Is this for me?

It is written for BAs who are new, returning or senior. Start with the free 30-day plan and a free practice case before you spend anything: Coming back after a break? You do not need to explain your break to us to use the site.

Can I put client data into AI tools?

Not by default. Read your firm’s policy first, and if there is no clear answer, assume that no client, customer or internal data goes into any tool. The free guide What not to paste into an AI tool sets out the rules.

Is it a subscription?

No. Starter is £30 and Complete is £80, each a single payment including UK VAT, for files you download and edit.

Can I use the files at work and with clients?

Yes, for your own employment and client engagements, and you may share the finished project documents with the relevant client. You may not resell or redistribute the template library. Using it across a team? Email contact@baaicollective.com.
